Yaaayf1morethanweekly Wrote:OK, so I don't know or understand the history. But I would have thought with a free to air podcast, any cross promotion would be beneficial.

F1weekly was the original podcast, which Grace was a regular listener to. She they setup her own blog website with her friend (although they have never met) Todd. As the blog became increasingly popular, they decided to make a podcast. F1weekly has a high listenership, and F1blog is apparently rapidly growing in popularity. The two podcasts remain friends, F1blog regularly comments on how good this podcast is. But at the end of the day they are competing for listeners, and cross promoting might have the opposite effect wanted. F1blog does not seem interested in finances, and I’d like to think they don’t spend as much money as F1weekly on equipment etc. If F1weekly wants to break even, and F1blog doesn’t, then there’s no point in cross promoting.

Quite right, it depends on what F1W want. As I have said in the post dedicated to this issue, we don't know what F1W's vision is, if it is the satisfaction of high listening figures, then cross promote. If it is to get enough money to make it break even, OK different approach. We are guessing what they want.

RE: F1Weekly Video Clips
Personally I do not think you cross promote with "competitors" --- cross promotion I think would work more with the likes of F1 Trivia and say F1 Rejects who have listeners who have an interest in F1 and who if they are listening to a mainstream F1 Podcast that is not F1Weekly might sample it if they hear about it while listening to F1 Rejects / F1 Trivia or a similar podcast. Likewise F1Rejects and F1 Trivia might benefit from the exposure on F1Weekly.

F1Weekly needs to get at the top of searches such as "F1" or "Formula 1 / one" in the likes of Itunes etc where people search for F1 Podcasts - that is the best way to promote themselves. I have posted a positive comment on Itunes perhaps others in the forum if they haven't should also do so.

I came across F1Weekly when I tried the various Podcasts that came up when I searched Itunes - I also sampled the others I found for a time - but after a while I found the others either irritating or they took themselves too seriously - F1Weekly has a good mix of news, opinion (some of which I agree with and some I don't) and also importantly a good cross section of presenters all of whom bring different but interesting personalities to the Podcast.

I don't know what level of downloads F1Weekly enjoys and where it ranks against the others but given the competition I have sampled they must be one of the higher downloaded specialist F1 podcasts.

They have also improved greatly from their very early shows and even in the last say 50. Clark and Steve (not forgetting Nasir) have become very professional in their presentation and Des who after an initial early start which was a little shaky at times can now produce a show that is right up there with what Clark and the boys produce.

Agreed - I love how Steve failed to keep a straight face, and Nasir's Lipton tag was tickling his chin Cool

Looks like the opening titles might have been influenced by a musical source:

Guys, Windows has a good editing program installed that will allow you to create title, credit screens etc.. pretty easy to use. It will beat shooting printed paper shots.

It was a style choice at the time. Maybe in the future if we do any more we will go that route. In the mean time please everyone leave some comments or rate the clips.

Thanks,
David

David, get upgraded to "director" tells you how here, this removes the 10 minute limit.

I just did it for myself and it's free.

RE: F1Weekly Video Clips
Guys, youtube may say limit of 10 minutes, but they sure as hell don't enforce it.

Funniest video I've seen on youtube is 55 minutes long.

A serious question however - Nasir seemed to have difficulty getting his glasses correctly positioned over his eyes (they were on his forehead for quite a while) -- was he smoking the leaves from that plant pre show or was there something in that tea Cool

No - he doesn't need chemical assistance these days.

His brain's so powerful that it prefers to look directly out through his skull: this avoids the transmission delays inherent in using the eyes.
It's a bit like Ferrari saving all that time by replacing the lollipop with lights...

[Message to self on re-reading this message - perhaps it's time to cut down on the chemical assistance]
