RE: Alonso skipping Monaco to race Indy 500
That Bourdais dive in to the wall was short and brutal.

Whatever result Fred gets in the race he's acquitted himself well.

i would be very afraid if i was one of the indy drivers. fernando is that close, and he gets 200 laps to figure the rest out.

It didn't look like his were the first skid marks left heading in that direction either. Sounds like he was relatively lucky with the injuries he sustained.

well that was quick, even for a company as agile as oyo.

... and his Honda engine "dun blowed up y'all"

Do ya think he will stay at McLaren next year if they still have Honda engines.

Do you think he will switch to Indycar next year now he has tasted hot dogs or just rid off into the sunset to count is millions?

That was a seriously impressive performance. Fascinating to watch him learning how to race in the "first 400 miles" style, then falter, and then learn how to master the tougher last part.

I wonder if JB might be tempted to have a go next year.

Mark

sports cars is still the most natural spot for him, or any other top-flight driver looking to get out of the grind of f1. if he and button could lure mclaren into lmp1 again, that would be an ideal scenario.

I'd love to see FA and JB together in LMP1 as long as it didn't have a Honda engine.

I think he'll do both, he wants the Triple Crown for his legacy, so odds are he won't give up on the 500 when he was so competitive on the first try.

It wouldn't surprise me to see the IRL organisers try to tempt him over for the entire season. Whatever it would cost would be insignificant to the publicity he would bring for the European market.

I wonder if F1 might make sure the LeMans and Indy 500 weekends are clear of the F1 schedule in future to allow these sort of wildcards more easily. As much as Alonso at the 500 helped them, it must also get some IRL fans considering watching F1.

There was a piece on [I think] James Allen today saying exactly that - F1 management were planning better co-ordination with other motorsports events in future.

RE: Alonso skipping Monaco to race Indy 500
my understanding was that while f1 had traditionally avoided le mans weekend, they intentionally scheduled the conflict in recent years to prevent their drivers from crossing over, which is seen as unnecessarily risky by the f1 teams. of course, with f1 under new leadership, it could be a very different program on offer.

i think le mans is generally safe by motorsport standards, but indycars on oval tracks is terrifying.
