Wonder how much truth is in this April Fools joke

First Jenson Button, then Nico Rosberg and now it’s Fernando Alonso’s turn to stun the F1 world by announcing his retirement from the sport.

The two-time champion had made it pretty clear that he was fed up racing in an under-performing car and he’s finally said enough is enough.

While many expect Alonso to make a switch to endurance racing and the Le Mans 24 Hours, sources suggest he will pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a cameraman.

Alonso has already showed the world his love of camera work

McLaren have already confirmed Pastor Maldonado as Alonso’s replacement, with a statement claiming they needed a proven race winner as well as someone who can bring a title sponsor to the team.

“The passion and dedication this extremely talented racer has shown, demonstrates the kind of fire we’ve been missing from the sport. Someone who’s not afraid to bulldoze his way to the front of the grid,” said Executive Director of McLaren, Zak Brown.

Leaked images had already appeared of a meeting between Maldonado and Alonso, kickstarting the rumours of the Venezuelan’s return to F1.

I know, made me laugh!

What's with this Alonso saying he is having the drive of his life? Is this some form of Spanish sarcasm?

I think it's him telling the world he is driving as well as he ever has and the car is s**t....again. I would imagine he's been told not to be too openly critical of the engine/car/team, so this is the alternative.

RE: Behind the scenes at Macca
Looks like there's a new engine on the way

Quote:The chief of Honda's Formula One engine development program, Yusuke Hasegawa, states the the main weakness is with the internal combustion unit, despite a McLaren simulation prior to the Chinese Grand Prix last weekend showing that the engine's energy recovery, storage, and deployment systems were also underperforming. Recent job postings in Autosport support this idea, as multiple positions are open in the realm of energy recovery systems.

With the rumors of an alleged April announcement of a Sauber-Honda partnership swirling, Honda may be renewing their commitment to the sport. It does not in any way appear likely that the motor giant has interest in splitting from the sport, and that it instead may wish to double down on its efforts to make a competitive Formula One engine. The new engine design will be tested during a special in-season test session at the Bahrain track after the Grand Prix. Given the abolition of the development-restricting token system, Honda may stand a genuine chance of catching up with this new engine design.

Hasegawa states that the goal is to have the new engine design proven ready for use at the fourth round of this year's Formula One season—the Russian Grand Prix at the Sochi Autodrome. If Honda fail to bring a worthwhile upgrade to McLaren, the pair may split. May we pray that does not happen.

So, some job adverts have just appeared and they're going to hit the ground running and turn things around in the next two weeks despite having failed for the past 3 years?
I have long ago stopped believing anything anyone says about this particular omnif***k.

Have to agree. Too little too late. How on earth can we be at race 3 and one of their cars has used it's allotment of engines for the season?! It's one thing to have an engine that's unreliable, but it's massively under powered with it.
