2017 Cars
What does everyone think of the new cars? I think they look awful. Opinions?

RE: 2017 Cars
yeah, that madness happening in front of the sidepods is a problem. several little quibbles all over the car, but those things look like there was a leak in the carbon fiber molds and they just spewed resin out.

RE: 2017 Cars
The underlying shapes and proportions of the bodies look fine to me, although for all the fuss about the tyre changes they look very little different.

On liveries, the Macca has too much black and not nearly enough orange. The others there just are dull, dull, dull. I've got some hope for the RBR (as I have for it as a Newey-designed Merc-basher).

Those are just the basic mule bodies that don't give much away, but they'll undoubtedly sprout more multiple sorts of daft, ugly extrusions over the next few weeks.

Regards,
Mark

Shark fins, two thumbs down.
Sauber, so, so.
McLaren, their agent orange looks less deadly than Monsanto's.
Force India, lacking in spicy flavor.
Mercedes, will prove the old saying right, if it looks fast, it will go fast.

RE: 2017 Cars
I like the Torro Rosso livery. It was good to see HAAS do something with the fin as well, it made it a little more interesting. No doubt others will take advantage of the advertising space in due course.

The T wing on the back of the fin is even more annoying. Hopefully Ross can sort out some of these crazy loopholes that lead to these sort of things.

I have no issues with the high element counts, F1 is the pinnacle, the cars should look like they were designed at a level you can't even begin to fathom.

...and when will McLaren ever get some more sponsors?!

Is there any more data about number of laps etc? Reliability is about the most important thing at this point, although I guess the engines etc are pretty well known quantities by now. Good to see McLaren got their car back out after a problem before the day started.

Will Fernando go to Mercedes in 2018 - for his last hurrah?

Might as well start the speculation at the start of the season - looks like another GP2 engine, only faster than Sauber

RE: 2017 Cars
Just waiting for Frank to post the "practice" youtube clip now

I think given the trouble teams have had with the power units the last few years comparing lap times is crazy. They should be far more on top of the basics of getting the car out and running (except Honda apparently) than in previous years.

As expected, this will do nothing for overtaking or close racing based on early comments from the drivers.

Some informed opinion has it that Ferrari are heavily sandbagging.

Presumably we can expect Toto's appeal to Charlie for a technical ruling in around 2 weeks time...
