give me all that money and support and still I would not have delivered at his level. There has to be some skill or ability, he is not Yuji Ide.

Sure, he's won everything he has been in and most on the current grid can say that - actually Nasir - can anyone say that?

But we all love a rags to riches story, not a extreme riches to slightly less but still very very rich story.

Are there any rags to riches stories in F1? Most of the top drivers have decent backing through their careers even if it's not their own money.

I like to tell myself the only reason I'm not in Formula 1 is because of the lack of sufficient backing.

Sure, he's won everything he has been in.....

Lance is very quick, no question about that. Some years ago I saw him at SKUSA Nationals in Las Vegas. He chased the race leader and two-time karting world champion, George Russell, most of the race and won the race in the end.

His racing talent, matched by Daddy's business talent, has catapulted Lance into the top tier. Luck always plays a part in any success as can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zD73cqvlog4

Vettel was champion in only one series, Formula BMW Germany, before arriving in F1 at Indy. He did win something like 18 of 20 races in FBMW series.

Lewis, Hulkenberg, Vandoorne all won every series they raced in.

Force India's new signing, Esteban Ocon, could become the Maharajah of Motorsports. He beat Max in F3 Euro series and then won the GP3 series also as a rookie. He comes from a totally different financial background than Lance; proving that mega talent and hard work will bring you to the Garden of Grand Prix.

Looking ahead to the next wave, Lando Norris could be the next Big Brit in F1. Between the start of the 2015 and the end of the 2016 season, this kid has won all 4 championships he raced in. Last year the inaugural MSA Formula series, now re-named as British F4. At the start of this year the very competitive New Zealand's Toyota Racing Series. Then added both the Formula Renault Euro cup and the NEC series.

Ricciardo had very little backing - his father owned a excavation business in Perth and took on a huge mortgage to support him on his path to an F1 drive

Ah to have the "rags", of a successful family business. I get your point though.

Presumably at some point on the journey some serious backers jumped in (was he a Red Bull junior driver?). I don't expect there will ever be a true rags to riches story like there are in something like Soccer as kids at that level of financing don't get a chance to go karting.
