Has some interesting ideas, particularly around the cockpit

It needs at least another 10 elements in that front wing.

i do like the idea of reducing aero elements. it would be blindingly simple to do that with the rule book, if they wanted to.

for my money, f1's defining characteristics are (in no particular order) open wheels, open cockpits, single-seaters, feature-length races, global schedule. everything else is open for debate; changes could make f1 very different, for better or worse, but it would still feel like f1 to me. changing any of the five factors i listed, however, makes it feel like not f1 anymore. that concept design partially breaks 2 of my 3 rules for an f1 car.

That is super interesting for me.

F1 is too long to be a flat out balls to the wall sprint race but too short to have any any endurance qualities. This is why we have a sprint car that needs tyre/fuel/brake saving.

It seems to be a hang up from the days that making a race car do 300 miles was an achievement.

Perhaps I am missing the point and it is this that makes F1 different.

RE: Mercedes Future F1 Racer
i find sprint races unsatisfying. there's no arc to the race; no development. the pit cycles are often the moments when a race shifts and forces everyone to adapt.
