RE: Half-off.
Quick action. Glad he's okay (even though he forgot to replace the steering wheel after being shaken).

RE: Half-off.
I am always surprised a stalled car doesn't call an immediate stop. The starter needs a big red button that automatically cuts all the engines.

RE: Half-off.
Ouch.
Interesting that it was the back of the grid that hit him - weaker and less experienced drivers I guess.

RE: Half-off.
It's because they are going faster when they arrive at the stricken car. They cannot see beyond the car in front. The first few can react in time as they are going slower, but the guy who hit him was completely blind until the car in front of him veered off.

5 - 6 seconds from the start to the impact - what's that in an F4 car - well over 100mph?

Standing starts, while exciting, can be dangerous.

Sadly, this Montreal crash was fatal for Italian F1 driver Ricardo Paletti.

RE: Half-off.
IT's unbelievable that that kind of incident would kill. Different times.

Again it was 6 seconds after the start and it was the back row sitter who hit the stalled car. Probably over 120mph by that stage.

RE: Half-off.
What do you guys think? Would a rolling start be better in all conditions? I know right before Champ Car folded they were experimenting w/ standing starts, but a lot of drivers were worried about the danger. Historically they had used a rolling start, probably as a hold-over from oval racing.

RE: Half-off.
There is nothing wrong with a standing start, unless there is a stalller. They have many seconds to stoppit.

RE: Half-off.
the only argument i have ever heard in favor of a standing start is that it induces more shuffling/overtaking/conflict/chaos. what makes it exciting also makes it dangerous.

and how exciting is the race when the team/driver you're rooting for is retired in turn 1 of lap 1?
