is it? because last year, mercedes was winning everything in sight, and with the same engine, mclaren never saw the podium after the first race. they finished 5th, not even the top mercedes customer team. i'm just a wee bit skeptical.

I'd be surprised if even McLaren knew how good the chassis is this year with so little running and such a poor engine. It can't be easy to do a lot of development when the thing is slow and unreliable like that.

When was the last time McLaren actually build a good chassis right from the start of a season? Was it Hamilton's rookie year when they got the huge fine?

Just read the article, McNish says Honda probably need a new engine...I think I saw comments from Scarbs saying what they have done is incredibly complicated and clever, and when they get it working it will give them a potential advantage that will be very hard to copy. I know who I think is more likely right.

I got the impression the rules meant taking a big risk on the design up front was the only way to go, as changing later is impossible with the engine credits. I didn't understand what the specific advantage would be, but it came up after the first time he saw the car with the engine covers off and could properly see where things had been placed.
