going two weekends into december is going to put quite a time crunch on the teams trying to get the new car ready for the following season.

so stupid. this is not the time for f1 to be picking a fight with sportscars. the drivers organization should get on top of this right now, while there's still time to fix it.

I'd be inclined to watch Le Mans over F1 if Hammy starts racking up wins early next season. At least Le Mans won't be as predictable.

Not really a clear picture of how the races/seasons panned out.

Plus, lets be honest, who really sits down and watches the entire LeMans race?

If you really like both it's not a big deal to watch F1 for 90-100 minutes during a 24h race, we can all find a way to have 2 screens active through various devices without too much difficulty. There is even some suggestion that the F1 will be a twilight race that starts after LeMans finishes in preparation for it being a night race in future years.

RE: 2016 F1 Race Schedule (Provisional)
In shocking news, officials from LeMans announced the famous racetrack will be retired.

When asked if the old track could be used by Formula 1, Mr. Bee said "We pulled out of France a long time ago. Now, people want the other France". When asked what he meant, Mr. Bee replied, "You know - Canada! I got to thinking...those people speak French, so why not bring LeMans to Canada?"

Next, Mr. Bee shocked the journalist with a very stunning announcement. "I'm pleased to introduce our Inaugural F1/LeMans Interrace to be held in the heart of our new exciting France, 'Canada'...for next June. There will be a special F1 Class that will not be allowed to enter the circuit until exactly 11 hours into the race." The buffoon added, "The F1 Class will be allowed on the track up to 70 full laps, at which time they must exit the circuit completely. I know it will be a success!"

Amid gasps, Mr. Bee confidently stated, "I've pitched the idea to Formula E and am 100% positive they will eventually warm up to the idea. I have also been in secret meetings with officials from the City of Los Angeles to aquire the 2017 freeway rights."

When asked about the possibility of a race of this magnitude actually taking place on the freeways of Los Angeles, city officials responded positively and stated, "Mr. Bee is a visionary." One such official present, a California Senator who requested anonymity, stated "I personally met with Mr. Bee myself. I can tell you honestly today, that despite appearances, he is nothing short of a stand up guy." The unnamed Senator bloviated, "I am also unequivocally convinced of the financial magnitude in windfall profits that will positively impact our great city by shutting down miles of congested freeways for only a weekend or so."

Asked about the next step, the Senator turned the mic over to other city officials who said, "We are looking for ways to raise the required $25M before the end of next year."

The Good Motorsports Lord, Bernie, will schedule the F1 race to start after the Le Mans event is over. Bernie is like Lola, gets what he wants. Expect Monte to replace the Hulk at Porsche.

Smart move.

Which is why F1 doesn't have a fast growing fan-base. All he cares about is money. He theatened to wipe Silverstone off the calendar if they don't pay 17M pounds for 2015. We are talking about Silverstone! C'mon Bernie, just take off your watch- you have another one.

How do you know these things, Nasir? You're probably Eddie Jordan's informant when he gets it right. Smile

Is it a coincidence that the F1 fan base decline has some correlation to the switch from free-to-ait to pa-for-view TV coverage. Same thing happened to V8Supercars

they're definitely correlated. i'm not sure there's causation, and if there is, i'm not sure which way the arrow points.

- f1 goes to pay tv > casual fans and poor fans don't bite > viewership declines.
- f1 gets generally crummy > f1 viewership declines > f1 turns to pay tv to keep their revenues.
- f1 finances get gutted by 2008 economic meltdown > simultaneously, f1 turns to pay tv for money and fans get turned off by millionaires burning gallons of petrol to not get anywhere.

all seem plausible to me.

Is the decline people moving on or F1's failure to attract new fans I wonder? (Perhaps both) Pay TV is bad for attracting new fans, so is F1's dismal social media strategy (do they have one). Other sports that have a younger fan base seem to do a much better job on that side.

I am sure it is 99.9% pay tv. All the other reasons ever given have come and gone over time since TV was invented.

By looking at country flags during podium celebrations, perhaps country viewership is higher when represented by a driver, and lower when there is no driver.

Eurosport will cover F1 next year, that should give us some more insight.
(Eurosport is a sports channel available in all cable packages and to anyone with a satellite dish).

that's odd... it's not exactly a huge audience... unless they are using it as a test market.

virtually all households have a cable service, so it's almost as free to air.
