Le Mans 2015
Anyone else currently enjoying this?

Lots of fun dicing going on earlier, although we seem to be in a consolidation phase in most formulas.

Irritating adverts on Eurosport HD, but otherwise all's good.

Mark

RE: Le Mans 2015
I caught the start on some obscure freeview channel that shows obscure car programs. Cannot find another and the streaming is pretty awful.

RE: Le Mans 2015
tv coverage in america is really spotty this year, owing to fox sports broadcasting the women's world cup as well, but i'm catching as much as i can.

here's hoping porsche returns to their rightful position at the top of the podium at la sarthe.

No, it got taken off some time ago. I think when BT sport went on. But that is pay. Something wrong about having pay channels on something called free-view.

Went to the free stream that they had last year and now you have to pay to use the app. Must have been talking to Bernice the Greedy

RE: Le Mans 2015
i thought it was telling to hear hulkenberg say that le mans is fun because they get to spend lots of timing driving on the limit, whereas f1 these days is mostly targeting a pre-determined "ideal" lap time. we're living in an upside-down world in which endurance racing is about driving as fast as possible and "the pinnacle of motorsport" is about maintaining a consistent and conservative pace.

No bias there then........;-)

I hope this gives Hulkenberg the necessary CV additions to get him a decent F1 drive. Move over Kimi or the other Nico.

tons of bias, but i stand by it. for the winning #19 car, there was really nothing that happened other than consistency and leading. the other two porsches had some mishaps, and the gt porsches struggled, but the winning car had a pretty perfect weekend.

RE: Le Mans 2015
just the traditional diversity of strategies that comes with team-based racing. i can't keep up, is teamwork legal or illegal in f1 right now?

Depends if it is legal team work or illegal team work.

not forgetting if the driver decides to participate or not.

I think WEC have their rule book set just right from what little I know. You have 4 manufacturers with diverse powertrains and good close racing at the front. It would be nice to see some more diversity of design in F1 and to know they were trying harder in the race. Tyre strategy doesn't bother me, but it should be about making the tyres last for 2 stops instead of going hard and taking 3, not driving at 80% to avoid them falling apart with everyone on the same strategy.

Coasting for fuel in sprint racing is also nonsense. I'm sure the current hybrid engines are capable of so much more given some more freedom. It would perhaps make more sense to give 120 liters now and have a 5 liter reduction per year for the next few years to give manufacturers time to improve their efficiency. The fuel flow restrictions are also nonsense that nobody sees. The limit on fuel is enough without measuring that.
