RE: Sir Patrick Head
I tried to find Patrick's website, but not surprisingly he doesn't have one so I sent congratulations via the Williams one!

So, does anyone know why Long John Surtees is still knighthood-free?

Regards,
Mark

I've always assumed he must have peed someone off in the past sufficiently high up to get him vetoed.

RE: Sir Patrick Head
Just shows the whole thing is a meaningless farce.

Anyway, I was pleased Lennie Henry got one.

Mark

RE: Sir Patrick Head
You can't have a meaningless farce and be pleased someone got one. That's a thingymybob dilemma.

RE: Sir Patrick Head
I suppose I was just illustrating the contradictions and biases inherent in the whole process.

There's civil servants who get one by just doing their job and keeping their noses clean, politicians and business types who grease the correct back passages, right through to people like Head and Henry who genuinely do stuff that's beyond the call of duty.

Regards,
Mark

RE: Sir Patrick Head
What is the word I am looking for?

They said they would overhaul the system to recognise people who have done over and above. They haven't stopped giving them to people who were just there but maybe changing it too much would be bad. The system has been this flawed for nearly 1000 years but is still highly valued at home and internationally. I think the fact that the system has this mysterious royal fed, not taking heed of public opinion, who makes these decisions anyway mystique is what drives that.

We don't want it to become a red carpet, comedian hosted, room full of millionaires giving each other gold statues, awards ceremony.

no, keep it a blue-carpeted, joyless, billionaires tapping swords on rich celebrities, awards ceremony. that's much better.

dennis is right.

Ron will be surprised to hear you say that.

I got a nice reply from the Williams office:

"Dear Mark,

Thank you very much indeed for the kind wishes and we will pass them directly to Patrick, he will I am sure be delighted.

Kind regards,

Send it to Richard Porter (Sniff Petrol). I'm sure he could write some Ron speak for a McLaren response
