2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed
Despite the forecast I had two dry days, the first mainly spent on the forest rally stage getting showered with dust and stones. Magic.

While there were the usual Le Mans competitors, unwashed and un-repaired from the race:

More to follow...

A particularly sweet one for Clark:

Running repairs after contact with the straw bales at Molecomb corner:

My McLaren supporters club membership card got me access to their historics pit garage - this is getting fettled before a run up the hill (Emmo was there, but I don't think he drove this):

Unfortunately it didn't get me a drive in this:

Yes, that is who you think it is:

Ha! Richard Petty!!! Perez tearing up a high dollar Lancia Stratos! I almost bought an Audi Quattro back in the day-loved the car, took it for a spin, but it was too small for a daily driver. Dr., it looks like you had a great time! Fantastic photos!

RE: 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed
I think Charles March treads a careful line between keeping the traditional values of the Festival for us oldies, while keeping the whole thing financially viable by allowing enough commercialisation, but not too much.

It is more Corporate than when I went last, and every year the straw bales and tapes corral you further away from the action. I did really enjoy myself, though, especially on the forest stage which is a unique opportunity, plus early in the mornings around the pits areas.

Later in each day it got annoyingly crowded around the hillclimb course, and I must say there was this time a significant male chavvy element there who I saw several times arguing angrily with people who they thought were getting in their way or obstructing their view. Not what this event is about at all, and I bet that doesn't happen at Monterey.

So it's fine as long as you have realistic aims and plan your day carefully. I stayed at Chichester university B&B which is fine, and on both days at around 7.15am it took only 15' from starting the engine to parking in the Festival carpark.

I'd be happy to advise anyone who wanted 'individual' guidance on clever routes in, but better if this was done via PM.

Regards,
Mark

The thing with motorsport is that it attracts two audiences. You have the petrol-head 'chavs' who like to put spoilers on their Vauxhall Corsa's and do doughnuts in Toy 'R' Us Carparks. Then you also have the petrolheads with a bit of money who quite like visiting country estates in their Jaguar E types.

Both sets of fans don't always mingle well, or at the very least put off by each other.

I do fancy that Fiesta.

But look here, are you saying I am a Jaguar driving type. Open back gloves, flat cap and quite possibly a pipe?
