Formula 1 in Azerbaijan
I saw briefly in the papers today Bernie Ecclestone advocating a race in Azerbaijan. Well I have no problem with this event taking place But I was mildly surprised to see such a location suggested.

It would be convenient for Turks and Iranians I suppose.

>> A race around the streets of the capital Baku has been made possible by Flavio Briatore, the former Renault boss, who is likely to pocket a seven-figure sum from any deal. Briatore, who still speaks regularly to Ecclestone, has been called the "Bling King of Azerbaijan" after opening his couture business Billionaire in Baku. <<

Flav has gone a long, long way down from his days selling high Northern Italian style for Luciano Benetton.

Plenty of filthy lucre for the old tart there, though:

Baku City Circuit to host "four unforgettable days of entertainment" in true Hammy style.

Three of the biggest stars in world music - Chris Brown [infamous for leaving Rihanna for dead after a bloody fight in a rented Lambo], Enrique Iglesias [son of famous Julio] and [one hit wonder] Pharrell Williams - will be the headline musical acts throughout the weekend of the 2016 FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX OF EUROPE.

In addition, the entertainment stages will offer spectators a series of live performances throughout the weekend, from the likes of DJ Mansur, DJ Hazy, Roberto Kel Torres, Rilaya, Dilara Kazimova, Kenan Gadimov, Chingiz Mustafayev and Rast.

Let's hope the race is safe and spectacular

That last straight is REALLY long. Might be hard to tell based on the perspective of the camera, but I was hoping for some more elevation changes given it's such a long track.

This old one shows some of the elevation change

Yeah, the old city definitely seems to have some elevation change on it. And the city is a beautiful backdrop. I'm optimistic about this race. That turn 8/9 complex looks treacherous.

Looks like you need a Mercedes engine to be near the front
