GP2
I'm being very lazy today........

Can somebody give me a simple summary of the following

- Who founded GP2
- Who owns GP2
- Does Bernie have a stake in it?
- Who owned Formula 3000, and why did Formula 3000 die?
- Did Bernie own the original Formula Two (going back a fair bit here)

"Woof Woof"

RE: GP2
- Who founded GP2
Flavio and Bernie.

- Who owns GP2
I think Flavio and Bernie still. It's run and operated (along with Gp3) by Bruno Michel.

- Does Bernie have a stake in it?
I believe so. I remember that Bernie also owns rights to "GP1" in case he ever wanted to start a break away series (since Formula 1 is linked to FIA).

- Who owned Formula 3000, and why did Formula 3000 die?

F3000 was an FIA series. It didn't start as a spec series, but it become one in its last 10 years or so. However, it also became really expensive and the fields started to dwindle. The grids struggled with fewer than 20 entrants as junior drivers started going to other series like Formula Renault (now known as World Series by Renault).

- Did Bernie own the original Formula Two (going back a fair bit here)
No - it was an FIA-backed series and it disappeared almost 30 years ago, long before Bernie thought there was any money in feeder series.

I wonder if Nasir or anyone else has more dirt on the politics involved.

RE: GP2
Regarding politics, this is what I have heard over the past few years.

Some participants have stated that not all engines are equal. A very well known and respected team owner does not agree with this while a very experienced journalist has his doubts.

More common complaints have been teams favoring one of the drivers; but such talk normally comes from second bananas - who tend to be on slippery slope when they get to GP2 level.

What goes on behind closed doors we may never know. All I can say is drivers who won GP2 championships in their first year (Rosberg/Hamilton/Hulkenberg) or did very well (Grosjean) also won championships in junior series and are now doing well in Formula 1.

Like Steve Falb, I would like to keep an open mind and close by saying where there is smoke, there is fire.
