Sochi -The Grand Prix of Russia
This track seems to be in a very beautiful setting. With over 1,000 people working on it, it lies in the middle of the 2014 Winter Games Olympic Village. It is one of the longest F1 Circuits at 5.8 km, and runs clockwise.

Sort of reminds me of the Houston GP course that Champcar used to run...

RE: Sochi -The Grand Prix of Russia
Sochi missed the deadline to file for a 2014 race. The Russian Automobile Federation is at issue with Sochi.

If you want to visit Russia, just stay where you are.

If that nice Mr Putin gets his way glorious Russian empire may come to you.

I suppose if I wanted to visit Russia I just need to walk round Kensington and Chelsea, or Moscow-on-the-Thames as they call it.

RE: Sochi -The Grand Prix of Russia
Oh, you have a Russian speaking minority who feel they are being discriminated by the Fascists in Westminster?

I can see it all now.

Step 1: Mysterious Russian speaking chaps arrive who are definitely, really, cross my heart and hope to die, not Russian military, arrive.
Step 2: Mysterious non Russians assist beleaguered local Russian population to take over the City Hall, New Scotland Yard and (by mistake) the Albert Hall
Step 3: Fascist forces arrive and are beaten back by brave insurgents
Step 4: Referendum held. Seven voters turn up and cast 1,206 votes for the Independent Republic of Chelsea and Kensington. One other voter turns up intending to vote to the contrary but mysteriously falls into the Thames and is lost. Referendum carried by 97.6%.
Step 5: Republic of Chelsea and Kensington appeals for comradely help from Glorious Russian Empire
Step 6: Not a word from Empire
Step 7: Roman Abramovich organises workers' patrols of the borough
Step 8: Insurgents melt away
Step 9: To be determined

This isn't happening in Ukraine, because Putin said so - and he's the man!

I assumed most of the Olympic venues would have crumbled into piles by now.

RE: Sochi -The Grand Prix of Russia
Formula 1 track designer Hermann Tilke insists the layout of the Sochi circuit was not to blame for the lack of thrills in the Russian Grand Prix. He blames the Pirelli tires, but doesn't fault Pirelli for choosing a conservative setup for a new track.

RE: Sochi -The Grand Prix of Russia
I agree, the track, for a "street" circuit seemed OK but it is depressing that all this excitement this year is almost exclusively down to the tyres.

The FIA announced no F1 night race for this season. It was hoped at least twilight would add a little excitement to Sochi. Let's hope it rains!

RE: Sochi -The Grand Prix of Russia
Rain would help, but specifying 1962 Dunlop C42 crossplys all round would be more likely to work...
