Sometime a driver does something so stupid they should be banned for life. This is one.

The loss of the Delta Wing. That was also outrageous driving from Nakajima.

I never like seeing someone get punted, but good riddance to bad rubbish. that delta wing was way off the pace and super sketchy under braking.

It did look like a kid on a skateboard in the middle of a hockey match.

Just under 6 hours to go and only 2 seconds between the leading Audi e-trons.

Just read a report that said it now seems Davidson has a broken spine, dont know how bad yet but report said looks like he will be out of racing for months

I'm watching the French feed (which I don't understand either) for now. Another crash.

3 months. I heard two broken vertebrae but nothing displaced, so no lasting damage.

The Davidson crash was the only thing that was reported on Canadian news that I saw, and they were reporting that both drivers were unhurt, which really annoyed me. I e-mailed them to complain and was told they were not running a LeMans story and could I provide more details, which I did, and they still claimed they couldn't find the story to correct it. I gave up after that as it had dropped off the endless loop on the 24hr news channel that seems to have about 30 minutes of stories on repeat.

I thought it was fantastic, and good to see something properly innovative in the race. We might see more of it going forward with the new rules I heard being discussed. It sounds like they are pretty much just going to give them a reduced amount of fuel to complete the race and leave everything else open regarding drivetrains, cylinders, turbos, boost pressures etc. If the Deltawing fuel figures were anywhere near correct it could be viable with some development.

This series is the true pinnacle of motor racing now and I think you'll see more manufacturer teams coming in. I think I heard there will be a factory Honda and Porsche team in the next two years and I expect more will follow.

i like innovation as much as the next guy, but i'm not going to praise a failure just because it was innovative. the delta wing didn't work. it wasn't as good as they projected it would be. i don't know why they didn't think about how having two thin front tires mere inches apart would make braking a very daunting prospect. let's not forget that the delta wing was designed for indycar, and was brought to le mans after being rejected. it would be for more sensible on a roundy-round than on a proper circuit. there's a rumor that it's going to be brought to alms next year. i hope it's not true.

i'm very excited about porsche's return to their second home in france. it's about time they added a few more notches to their tally before audi gets any ideas about who is tops.

It's all VAG now though. Although I think it's great that the company is funding two race teams for the series.

With the innovation the new rules should bring I can see this series being the one that the top engineers would want to work on. I'd imagine someone like Adrian Newey would love the challenge of something like this instead of jumping through the ever decreasing loopholes of F1.

RE: Le Mans 2012 Live Streaming
i've not seen any signs of the porsche-vag merger actually affecting their operations relative to each other. porsche still seems to be doing whatever they want, and taking no interest in what the volkswagen group. i recall reading that porsche didn't even give advance notice to vag that they would be returning to le mans (which could certainly be considered stepping on audi's toes), let alone getting approval. so far, the merger seems like just a stock swap that was made far too complicated by strange german laws.

The Cayenne/Q7/Tuareg share a platform, I'm sure the Macan (I preferred the project Cajun name) SUV will be based on the Q5. Although I think the platform sharing was happening before the merger mess.

I think I read somewhere that Audi will be in charge of the engineering development of the SUV's with Porsche dealing with the sports cars. Then each companies teams will finalise the handling at the end of the projects.

RE: Le Mans 2012 Live Streaming
yeah the suv teamwork predates the merger. I don't think Porsche really cares about the cayenne. they want it to be the best suv in the world, but don't push it higher than that very low bar. it's mostly just a cash cow to fund their pet projects.

Long may it continue!! Maybe the Macan will pay for the race program. The sales estimate is 50-55,000 a year.

yeah, i'm all for it. as long as they keep it great (for brand pride), i'm all for them cashing in with a vehicle that i don't personally like. it's what made the 918 possible.

There was a rumour that a current F1 driver with some LeMans experience, who is a Porsche ambassador, will be part of the Porsche team
