Rubens to Indy?
[Image: 372163_1501134300_186779196_q.jpg]John Oreovicz
If Rubens Barrichello promised his wife he wouldn't race Indy cars, why is he reportedly doing a seat fitting today at KV Racing?

Rubens always said no to Indycar because his wife was too afraid of him driving on a high speed oval.
Ofc, that was back when Rubens had a F1 ride.

Seat fitting could mean number of things.
Maybe he will just test the new car for fun. Help with the development.
He could be doing just the Indy Brazil race
Or maybe he is in full time with KV Racing.

Last year, KV Racing was a 3 car team with Tony Kanaan (best friends with Rubens), EJ Viso and Takuma Sato.
Sato has left this year because he is a Honda driver and KV is going to use the Chevy Ilmor engine.

So the 3rd car has no driver signed....yet Wink

Quote:The Formula One driver [Rubens] is scheduled to be at Sebring International Raceway next Monday and Tuesday, a person familiar with the test told AP on condition of anonymity Wednesday because the 2-day test session is exploratory for both Barrichello and the race team.

Indy has virtually no profile down here in Oz apart from the fact that we very occasionally get a small news piece on how an Australian driver has gone - does it have much coverage anywhere other than in the US?

NASCAR gets about 90% of motorsports coverage in US.
Indycars occasionally make the highlight clip on the evening ESPN Sportscenter.
F1 coverage is virutally nonexistant.

who has a bigger profile in Australia, F1 or V8 Supercars?

They are promoted on different channels so both get good coverage.

V8 Supercars gets 2 x 4 hour sessions on weekends when they are racing, plus a mid-weeks show

F1 gets 3 hour live coverage for each race, plus inclusion in a midweek motorsport review. The Australian GP gets two days live coverage and Gold Coast Indy used to get three half-days coverage

Other channels have 2 - 3 hours motorsport a week, including a 1 1/2 hour history show on Sunday. I accidently caught a 1 1/2 hour show yesterday on the Group B rally cars that was on one of the obscure channels

V8 Supercars would have the bigger profile

With such a low media profile how do they maintain sponsorship etc?

their title sponsor makes casual men's shirts. the series is abandoning roundy-rounds because the promoters don't pay enough. some would say they're not maintaining sponsorship.

Did Go Daddy go with Danica? I hear she is saying she isn't doing the Indy 500 this year.

And didn't I hear that Newman/Haas pulled out of IndyCar?

RE: Rubens to Indy?
Sponsorship story for IRL/Indy car racing is interesting.

Their first sponsor was Northern Lights, they went out with the tech bubble.

Pep Boys came to repair the ill fated series. This became IRL vs Manny, Joe and Co in the halls of justice. The deep pockets of Hulman/George family fed the series for many years until the sisters got some Clabber Girl baking powder and cooked TG's goose.

At last, they signed IZOD but, while the sponsorship is there, it turned into a croc of a deal. The marketing company that brought them into the series sued Indy car racing over payment issues.

Happy Friday and enjoy the Daytona 24 Hours.

Go Daddy is supporting Danica in Nascar and James Hinchcliff in Indycar.

Newman/Haas racing has been shut down. Mostly because Newman is dead and Haas is getting close. blunt but its the truth.

IZOD has been a savior for Indycar series. They have pumped in lot of money for promotion and legitimized the series in the eyes of other sponsors.
IZOD is owned by PVH which is parent company to other brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein and many others.
This is last year's TV promotions from IZOD and Indycar
Pretty slick! Smile

So even with all the teams having to purchase brand new cars and Firestone almost doubling the tire cost, there should be close to 30 full time cars on track this year.

I find the coverage here for both to be fairly reasonable on non-pay tv and on some of the smaller channels we get some more obscure racing too which i like, I do also have the full pay tv sports selection which i love cause no matter what time of the day there is usually some form of race on.

I recognise that track from Forza!

I would imagine he'll find the safety standards and track facilities a bit different to F1.

Its why Audi always race the 12 hours of Sebring.
Its lot tougher on the equipment than 24 hours of LeMans.

RE: Rubens to Indy?
This might actually spark some interest in IndyCar for me, although James Allen is reporting that RB promised his wife he would not race at Indianapolis, as it is too dangerous. This strikes me as slightly funny, since the old F1 track used at least 1/4 of the Indy oval in reverse and RB ran every F1 race that was held there.

It's not just the track, though, but the way the cars relate to each other while racing.
Just ask Ralf...

I hope Rubens doesn't do himself an injury: I rather hoped he'd go to DTM, where he'd go down well with the general scene.
