2012 Formula 1 calendar set for major overhaul
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/93442

I can understand the Bahrain move and June in Texas wouldn't be pleasant.

What would a good time of year be to hold it in Texas?

I don't think those storms frequent Austin much. I am no historian of the meteorological arts, but I don't think a hurricane would make it thar far inland intact. I would expect healthy rain and some wind.

Interesting. I guess the real reasons for the Austin delay are to give them more time to finish the track, and to save the teams some money in international shuttling to-and-fro.

Looks like I shan't be able to make it to the inaugural US race, then!

heat is the only weather concern in austin. it's too far in-land for hurricanes and too urban for tornadoes. obviously, there are no guarantees with weather, but nothing of probability worthy of planning around.

Isn't this also just a case of Bernie trying to make the FIA look weak and destabilise Todt? The FIA put a calendar out, then Bernie comes up with something else and presents it to the teams. It isn't his job to change the calendar, and there is no mention of the FIA being involved.

there probably is an element of the bernie vs. todt rivalry here. but that shouldn't prevent an actual improvement from happening.

Hurricane season runs from June until end of October generally. August and September tend to be the most active. But I don't think Austin would be affected much. Just lots of traffic from the crazy Houstonians and Galvestonians trying to flee the storm surge.

March and November would be the best for mildest temperatures.

Very sensible. I'd be much more interested in going to Texas in november than June. I don't care what the motives are, this is better.

I heard them talking on the Speed coverage today during the race that the November date for Austin is not official, and Austin is still operating under the assumption of their June date. I guess more will be revealed in the near future.

The proposed calendar has the be ratified by the WMSC before it can become official, but it seems to make sense.
