RE: World Cup 2010
England captain Rio Ferdinand will miss the World Cup after suffering a knee injury in the team's first training session in South Africa.

Ferdinand has been ruled out for between four and six weeks with ligament damage to his left knee.

Tottenham centre-back Michael Dawson will fly out later on Friday as Ferdinand's replacement, while Steven Gerrard will take over as captain.

More to follow.

Anyone care to bet when Gerrard's metatarsal injury occurs?

I was hoping this forum to be a soccer free zone.
It was a short dream, alas.

Oh my, I am so with you. Let it be over quickly. The Flag of St. George, the symbol of England has been taken over by a tabloid newspaper and the thug land supporters of some team of foreigners managed by a foreigner.

If Dr.M put one of these on his car I will seriously consider moving to Denmark.

Portugal just goes demential.
From ow on until the end of the Championship soccer takes up the first four pages of all non sportive newspapers (I don't even talk about the three or four daily sportive newspapers we have) and about 20 to 30% of tv news.
Even the size of Ronaldo's dick is discussed on tv.

There is a pub in winchester with a St Georges flag, the biggest i've seen in a long while.

Covers the whole of the pubs wall

our three national networks spend about 1 hour and a half of prime time with a live coverage of the national team departure to SA
What a waste of time and resources.

RE: World Cup 2010
Not sure how many replacement players are allowed at this point (the list of the nominated players had to be handed in a few weeks ago). But unless that number is reached and England still can't field 11 players, no, the US team has no chance.

+1 on hoping it's over quickly

England will stumble through to the knockout stage then loose by the quarter finals.

Thankfully it seems to be passing relatively quietly here. I knew Emigrating here was a good idea when I came, I now realise the true value of it.

I don't pay much attention, but its always fun when England lose on penalties.....again, and John Terry cries like a little girl.

RE: World Cup 2010
Apparently some German came out and said something disparaging about the Australian team in the run up to the match with them that I think is on Monday - which has upset soccer fans down here - in other related news apparently we have dropped out of trying to get the soccerfest down here in 2018
