World Cup 2010
The 2010 FIFA World Cup will be the 19th FIFA World Cup, the premier international football tournament. It is scheduled to take place between 11 June and 11 July 2010 in South Africa.

While I fully expect for Yaaay to express his distaste for football, I would rather he didn’t.

Any predictions? I see Spain winning it.

RE: World Cup 2010
i'm not really sure yet. espn has been promoting the hell out of the world cup, so i think they're going to be showing a lot of it, and by that i mean all of usa's matches. they're showing the usa czech republic warm-up tonight. i have a fancy-schmancy cable package, so i have the fox soccer channel, which i would think would carry a lot of matches. but i could be wrong about all of this, only time will tell.

I note Australia has a team in the top 25 - I confess I have very little interest in the forthcoming soccer-fest.

Soccer in Australian runs a very poor 4th place behind Rugby Union. Rugby League and AFL.

RE: World Cup 2010
I'll save Yaaay the trouble...I was really hoping not to see any mention of this. My only saving grace this year is that I am in a country where it doesn't take over for several weeks to the point that nothing else is on TV and it's all I hear at work every day.

Oh, and for anyone in the UK that ready the papers..(I can guess what the are saying at the moment, as they always do just before the tournament starts) England will not win the World Cup, stop dreaming!!

Whoever comes out first in Group H will win the WC. So it's going to be Switzerland (ok, Spain has a chance, too).

I doubt Spain will make it to the finals.
I'm betting my money on Argentina and Italy.

Italy's team this year is about as good as Felipe Massa. Only reason they might make it out of group games is because they're in the easiest group.

I love Diane Abbott.

But she'll make a lousy party leader.

Ho, hum...

One of the first matches on Saturday June 12th is England vs. USA.

That should get things buzzing on this message board...

The US team has traditionally strong goaltending going back for a generation, so I'm very confident that it won't be a blowout of that magnitude.

RE: World Cup 2010
Coverage in the US for the World Cup is usually pretty good. It's been pretty good since 94, plus with us doing pretty well in 02 I think a lot more people started caring. We got placed in a group that will be dominated by England, but I think we might have some decent games. I will probably be trying to stream it at work due to the time differences.
