RE: ign article on f1 2010
I went PS3 too, I don't really have a pc powerful enough. Cross platform has been done before but this definitely won't do it until next year at least. I would be more worried about latency issues.

RE: ign article on f1 2010
How would that work with X-Box live and the Sony online talking to each other and any costs etc? I don't know if both are free or cost different amounts.

I can't see it happening any time soon.

RE: ign article on f1 2010
the only cross-platform online play i know of is mac and windows, which is much more doable because they both have the same interface with the internet, and the game developer hosts the online game on their servers.

xbox live (which costs money) and playstation network (which is free) use different interfaces. i don't know who handles hosting.

ign has posted their review:
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/112/1121209p2.html

very positive, with a few weaknesses pointed out. looks like codemasters gets to keep their reputation for fantastic racers.

You could play quake 3 arena against pc and Mac players on your dreamcast. This was 1999 so I don't know why this couldn't be achieved in 2010 between xbox and playstation.

I am expecting a package in the post tomorrow. Who else has pre-ordered? Let's see who gets theirs first.

This is like being a school kid again.

Corporate greed. It could probably be achieved, but I doubt Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo want to co-operate and make it work. Far better to try and have people buy your system to get the games or play against their friends.

I pre-ordered from Amazon two weeks ago. Given your news I rushed home to find an empty mail box. Even more annoying seen as the Amazon distribution warehouse is only 10 miles from me.

But it probably has to go via London, Glasgow and Cardiff first!!

Shame you can't do collection.

RE: ign article on f1 2010
Normally I can order something up to 8pm and it arrives next morning's post. I think they have their own sorting office within the building and they "inject" the mail directly into the postal system. It probably goes via the Luton office as I am a LU post code, even so, frustrating.

I ordered it last week and was told it would arrive on release date, I checked the order status yesterday and it was dispatched but I still was expecting it would be tomorrow but it arrived in the mail today. Although it seems strange how it can travel all the way to north east scotland faster than going 10 miles down the road, must be royal mail's fault that it hasn't arrived yet.

Just checked the order status on the website and it still says "dispatching soon", delivery estimate 24th.

That will be it, they send out the further away stuff first and the nearest later.

Had a go with it yet?

They have 4, but recognising facts like this would make this discussion more complicated. This is my local one.

Just a quick blast around Spa in a McLaren, the graphics are fantastic and the cars feel really good. The weather effects are amazing, when following other cars closely you can hardly see anything and makes Eau Rouge very challenging. The AI try to defend positions and I heard in a preview article that they included the drivers personalities in the game and Alonso and Hamilton race you hard as you would expect, I wasn't sure if getting close to Vettel would be a good idea or if it would be race over but luckily he went off the track in front of me and I got past and pulled away with my car intact. I'll be putting it through its paces more tonight but the short test I had so far I can say its the best F1 game I've ever played.

I'll be waiting to hear what you think of Silverstone and how it compares with the real thing after you drove it earlier this week in the 308.

my gamestop preorder was supposed to arrive two days ago. apparently my stern email greased the wheels because they now claim it is sitting outside my side door.

RE: ign article on f1 2010
what's a psn?, ok that's facetious. I am not that out of it. However this would require my PS3 being connected to the interwebnet, which it is not. Is there a wireless way of hooking it up? It's 3 rooms away from the router.

RE: ign article on f1 2010
if you have a wireless router, that's no problem. ps3 has wifi built in. mine is hooked up wirelessly.

at least when the next update comes and you're trying to download it at the same time as 100 million japanese teenagers, you can rest easy knowing it's not your slow internet connection's fault.

RE: ign article on f1 2010
It's worth being connected just for game updates. I think developers are increasingly adding new content. I don't know what the F1 game is like, but MotoGP added 2010 riders/sponsors to the 09/10 game when they became available, which was a nice touch instead of having to wait until the season was nearly over.
