Prediction Competition 2010

RE: Prediction Competition 2010
Cyan you get my vote for the late 9 and 10 inclusion - Apex you do also.

Tricky definitely it would not be the same for most of us without the enjoyment of beating Tricky Smile

One of the newspapers down here has a policy of allowing anyone who missed the start of their footy picking competition to get in the first 2 weeks by taking on the lowest picking score of each of those 2 weeks as their week 1 and 2 pick

In a dictatorship, you don't even get to ask that question.

The F1Weekly Spreadsheet Development Division (it's been promoted from department) has done it's job well and I will, so long as I receive the entries by Saturday morning practise, take the grid to whatever I feel like dictating.

By way of compensation, I am a benign dictator after all, those already entered may change their picks if they can be bothered.

Please continue about your work peasants.

Ohhh a promotion, does that mean more work and more 0's? Smile

As ever your rule is fair and just.

I assume everyone realised I was joking with the unanimous vote thing...

This prediction competition was nothing until Yaaay, the benevolent dictator and commercial rights holder, took it over.

Over the years, he's always looked after our interests, treated us well, allowed some of us to cheat, and even win some of the time. Since he's grown the F1Weekly Prediction Competition into an international event with at least 22 entries, I say we listen to him and allow last minute changes and up to 4 more entries to fill the remaining available spreadsheet space, provided no dodgy Serbians are allowed.

I'm assuming you are in contact with the commercial rights holder to know there are 4 spaces left on the sheet (seeing as I only added them this morning), either that or you're psychic...

The spreadsheet/grid can always be expanded as required, we have the programmers on standby. It wouldn't be a proper F1 competition without the last minute entries, saved with the help of the commercial rights holder anyway Smile

Hopefully the late comers can get their entries in before we get to Q3 and quali though, otherwise that might require some sanctions.

Actually my whole post was thinly veiled allusion to what a team owner might say about the F1 dictator: Bernie. I settled on 26 since it is the number of cars on the grid. Lucky guess!

RE: Prediction Competition 2010
Koala may think that he can make cheap remarks at my expense, but this year is going to be different. Last year I found unpredictable, the rules were tainted in such a way that Webber managed to win a Grand Prix. There was no way of predicting his feat, as the majority of the world’s population recognise he is a middle ranking driver with a bad temperament.

In private conversations with the great and glorious Koala, I can confirm that he is in fact a secret DC supporter. Evidence which is shown below.

So its time Koala stopped making the pointless jives and understands that I am a man who knows which drivers are good, and which are not. I have put Webber in my top 10 purely because I realise that he will work his way up into the points out of luck rather then judgement.

I would like to thank Yaaay for reminding me about the predictions and for the support given to me. However this does not mean that I will refrain from publishing the 2010 Prediction Competition Investigation into Gross Misconduct

RE: Prediction Competition 2010
Yeah I think the bonus structure should be changed to reduce the emphasis on getting lucky with picking the right place. Let's be honest, it is based pretty significantly on luck as one retirement or incident can move everyone out of bonus-scoring position. I say this now, after I had a good result, so it doesn't look like whining (whinging for you Brits). I think picking the points-scorers should have far more reward placed on it than getting their positions correct.

A good example is this: I scored well, but I scored better because one of my favorite drivers had an engine problem than I would have if he didn't. Even though i benefitted from it, I think it's unfair. Why not make the bonus something uniform, like 1 extra point for each position picked correctly...with the current scoring system the point gaps might keep this contest from being closely-fought once the season gets further along.

Team Cozmoose F1
Bahrain Press Release

Cozmoose, Team principle
Team Coz had a rough start to the 2010 campaign. Although most top 10 runners were picked, we could not nail any of the exact finishing positions and missed out on the all important bonus points. Thus, we find ourself toward the rear end of the team ranking list. However we take satisfaction in the fact that in our maiden race, we were able to beat SteveF1Weekly, one of the house teams in the F1Weekly.com League. Our engineers will closely scrutinize the data from this race and we hope to be more competitive at Melbourne.

RE: Prediction Competition 2010
I think the points are OK. Ultimately the gaps might be bigger with more points, but the effect of picking the right finishing order and getting a bonus is about the same.

It's all about accuracy at the top, Apex and cyan both got 1st and 3rd right and that's big numbers.

I promised to share the spreadsheet for those who want to play with it. I think this link will work.

https://docs.google.com/fileview?id=0B-d...OGVh&hl=en

Thanks again to chemics for making the workbook nice and automatic.

I just felt left out, and I'm tired and highly cafinated, so I'm not making any sense today. We changed the clocks at the weekend and it's thrown me off completely, it felt far too early when the alarm went off at 5:15 this morning and I couldn't get to sleep last night, despite the bottle of wine, which normally works a treat.

I've had the Executive President of the F1Weekly Spreadsheet Development Division make some alterations and get extra stats.

The number of spot on hits.

and this will be a running total on the summary chart. You need to blow this up.
