Takuma Sato
I know there are quite a few Sato fans on this board.
Word is that Sata will be racing in US (Indycars) this upcoming year.
He'll be teaming up with Mario Moraes at KV Racing.

RE: Takuma Sato
So would I - I came close to being able to get to the Indy 500 this year, but I have to return from a US conference on 28th May for 'family reasons', so it'll have to wait another year (rats!).

Mark

RE: Takuma Sato
I think this will get some new Japanese fans watching and F1 fans taking a gander, and the more higher profile drivers enter the series the better reputation it will get, but it needs more American drivers. I know ambroze and monty aren't American, but most the top NASCAR drivers are american, and that's what makes it popular.

I think before F1 comes to race in the US the local single seater series should be strong. Is is different market with many high profile events, unlike the other new countries, so F1 won't be on anyone's radar unless the Indy scene is big, and we can have a rivalry between the two again Smile

RE: Takuma Sato
i don't think sato has any pull with the general population of f1 fans. the cabal of semi-joking sato fans on this board notwithstanding, sato was a marginal figure for a brief period of time that is, in f1 terms, long forgotten. if justin wilson and franck montagny weren't bringing in f1 fans before, i see no reason why sato would now.

RE: Takuma Sato
I'm a serious Sato fan and I am really looking forward to the new Indy season, now.
He has more charm than the rest of the field put together (including the girls...).
He has speed, motivation and no fear of big names -remember Spa 2005? Montreal 2007?- and is said to be friendly with fans.
I'm sure he would agree to an interview with Nasir :-D
Surely, he often overshoots it. But do you prefer the Heikkis and the Kazukis of this world? Racing in F1 and barely being noticed?

RE: Takuma Sato
Worth digging up an old post then.............

Why we LOVE Takuma Sato

He is a cheeky chappie...

he knows when to be deadly serious,
[Image: wv5zrn.jpg]

as much as he likes to have a good laugh.

He is the number one Style Icon,
[Image: f4eoau.jpg]

he loves his fans as much as they love him.

Also, he knows being short is an advantage in F1
[Image: 14malq8.jpg]

and he can even pull awesome chicks with his model aeroplane
[Image: wcgwwi.jpg]

yet his Karaoke performances are legendary.

But there is one thing, just one moment in F1 history that means we all must love this guy.

On the 10th of June 2007, at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Montreal, Canada at approximately 3:40 pm, armed with only a Super Aguri and a suit full of TF, he overtook Fernando Alonso driving his McLaren.

Agreed, close to me and actually a pretty interesting track to watch a race. Love the night races.

As an IRL fan here in the states, it's great to see some more F1 talent getting a ride here. Hope they can get the Versus network in Japan...

RE: Takuma Sato
Sato got his first win in IndyCar at the weekend. Funnily enough the race is described as chaotic.

No one is as aggressive as Power or Castroneves. They go all out and Will Power grabbed P1 at the very start. Sato took the lead for awhile, but he lost ground in and out of the pits. I'd say his team let him down.
