The Rolex 24 hours at Daytona - parrothead - 01-29-2010 07:14 AM

This weekend is the Rolex 24 hours at Daytona. If you need your racing fix this may help you. I tivo the over night racing it and watch it Sunday blowing through the commercials. Big Grin

I love to watch the dudes from IRL, NASCAR and other motor sports fill in for the teams. Plus Hobbs always has something funny to say when he is in the booth.

here is a list of teams and drivers - http://www.grand-am.com/schedule/entrylist.cfm?series=r&eid=1481

No Brabham entered - unusual for a long distance race

NO Paul Tracy either. He would be the first person on my celebrity driver list!

But there is SeaBass!

my favorite alms team, flying lizard motorsports, have entered this year. that's the only reason i'm paying any attention to this race. the grand am series just doesn't do it for me.

Dang - just watched a podcast on Daytona and how they have dumbed it down (a bunch of the cars are a spec series chassis with body panels draped over them) and they have even lit the track so there is no real night racing. Because it doesn't run FIA approved classes, but US specific classes, the international distance racers don't attend. Crowd attendance has gone from full grandstands to sparcely filled grandstands. Shame

Papis, Wilson, Montoya, Lamy, Bourdais, Zonta - it's a who's who of the last 15 years in F1!

Too bad US sportscar racing is still split in two because it'd be great to get McNish, Salo, Klein, Magnussen, Beretta, and Brabham over from the ALMS grid too.

Now I wonder what the difference is between car 42 and car 43?

yeah, this is the problem. alms is where it's at. grand am is just an alternative for teams that can't afford to run in alms. but with alms adding the challenge classes, grand am might disappear completely.

I'll watch a little but I agree - the whole Grand Am series thing just doesn't hold my attention. The prototype cars are just ugly.

The whole Rolex 24 thing has just become like another all-star game - mildly interesting to see some of the players but not really meaningful.

Methinks the Grand-Am racers are more ready for this weekend than the NFL players. Big Grin

Grand Am prototypes are hideous.

after 10 hours the leader of the gt class is 20 seconds ahead of second place. looks like a good race.

Absolutely! I have always hated the look of the prototypes.

Thanks for sharing. It was a great race despite the late argy bargy between Taylor and Albuquerque.
