Full Version: Should F1 have tyre warmers?

You all know I hate the fact that tyres have a disproportionate effect on the cars performance. Well, if we are in the age of tyre management, let them manage them. Get rid of the cost of the dam things. It's the same for everybody and no other series appears to need them.
Not having tyre warmers in F1 would risk driver and spectator safety. You can not deny that the speed differential would be huge, thus causing crashes. In a perfect world we would not need warmers, but I can’t support a movement that would take F1 a step backwards on the safety front.

I don't buy that. F1 is one of the only series in the world that uses tire warmers. Look at the LMS/AMLS, modern LMP1 cars are just as fast as F1 cars in a straight line, don't break as well and are racing against GT2 and in some cases GT3 cars on the same track and at night time in the dark. The closing speeds between a LMP1 and GT2 car is far greater then that of a modern F1 car lapping a slower car.

In the LMS teams aren't allowed to heat up the tires because the ACO believes a driver struggling to get heat in the tires vs a car that is already up to temperature is good for racing and I agree. It has nothing to do with safety. If F1 drivers are the best in the world (some of them are, others I would find it hard to agree with that statement) they should be able to deal with it for a few laps until they are up to speed.

As much as F1 is the highest form of modern motorsport some of the personalities are cry babies and are afraid to go on track without warm tires because they might not be as good as someone else is. Let's face it, every team, every driver and every sponsor wants every bit of advantage and is looking for ways to avoid failure. Tire warmers are one of the those rules to me.
Safety is not, in anyway an argument here, at best it is an excuse and a poor one.

I've seen that episode, he is trying to break the world record for the biggest turd...held by Bono. It turns out Bono is a turd at the end, and is bigger than the pictured effort. Smile

I assume you have seen that one as well then.
Sorry I missed the subtlety of that, I was just interested in the pile of sh*t analogy towards that rubbish someone posted about safety.

Try this pile of sh*t instead.

I am against Tyre warmers. It has NOTHING to do with safety, but everything to do with skill. And I´ve seen some tremendous skill in the past from drivers thrashing the car on the out lap trying successfully to keep it in front of a hotter car. And of course others chucking it away because they couldn´t handle it. It was great to watch, and no refuelling either. Modern tyres are better nowadays anyway, so whats the point of tyre warmers?

All the chicks back home are going jump and shout
When they hear old Tricky Dicky's busted out

The guard he was a-sleeping in the noonday sun
Flies was a-buzzin' all around his rabbit gun
I slipped down off the rockpile I was a-working on
When that guard woke up, I was up and gone

Tricky Dicky's sure bust out
Tricky Dicky's sure bust out
Tricky Dicky's sure bust out

Gonna tell old Lucy Brown
Tricky Dicky's a-comin' to town
Headed for the river, I was a movin' yak
The sheriff and his dog were breathin' down my back
That river sure was muddy and it sure was wide
I left that bloodhound barkin' on the other side

Tricky Dicky's sure bust out
Tricky Dicky's sure bust out
Tricky Dicky's sure bust out

Gonna tell old Sally Bligh
Tricky Dicky's a-comin' by

[Instrumental]

Tricky Dicky you know it's true
That I sit here just a-waitin' for you
Farmer's daughter saw me and she gave me a smile
Thought it wouldn't hurt much if I woah, stopped a while
She sat me on the sofa and she gave me a glass of gin
She got me stoned, she telephoned and woah, turned me in

Tricky Dicky's back in jail
Tricky Dicky's back in jail
Tricky Dicky's back in jail
Tell the girls to weep and wail
Tricky Dicky's a back in jail
