If you had to pick one car, from throughout the history of the automobile, as the most beautiful of all time, what would it be? The Bugatti Type 57 Atlantic? Ferrari 250 GTO? Pontiac Aztek? Tough decision, and while everyone has their own opinion, we'd be hard pressed to pick just one. That's why the editors of Classic & Sports Car magazine assembled a panel of some of the most influential car designers around and asked them to choose. And what did they come up with? The Citroen DS.

Names like Ian Callum (famous for his Jaguar and Aston Martin designs), Leonardo Fioravanti (of Pininfarina/Ferrari fame), ItalDesign founder Giorgetto Giugiaro, former McLaren designer Gordon Murray, former Pininfarina chief Ken Okuyama, and Ford's European design director Martin Smith were all part of the jury which placed the Citroen DS ahead of the Jaguar, Ferrari and Lotus icons that rounded out the Top 10, which you can see in the press release after the jump. A timely choice, to be sure, as Citroen prepares to relaunch the DS line with a new concept in Geneva. But a peculiar choice just the same.

The top 10

1. Citroën DS
2. Jaguar XK120
3. Ferrari 275GTB
4. Cord 810/812
5. Ferrari 250GT Lusso
6. Ferrari 250GT Short-wheelbase
7. Jaguar E-type
8. Lamborghini Miura
9. Lotus Elan
10. Lotus Elite (1957)

I like her!
La déesse was a revolutionary car, decades ahead of her time. That's why the car was built form 1955 until 1972 virtually unchanged. It was the first car featuring the unique hydro suspensions, the lights turned with the front wheels, whith a tire failure you could easily continue to drive because the car was so perfectly balanced. This by the way saved De Gaulle's life when he was attacked by terrorist but escaped in a DS with only three wheels. And the design is also absolutely fantastique and unique. Apart from the Tucker and and old Tatra, I can't think of a limousine with such an extroardinary designt. And the decapotables were just absolutely beautiful and are very valuable today. Last, but not least, the car was versatile: there was an open version, a station wagon (used as ambulance) and even some sixwheelers. So IT IS the world's most impressive car ever.
Only the 1937 Talbot Lago, the teardrop car, comes close.
FIN
The new DS line is far being one of goddesses - just tarted up C3s C4s and C5s with new bodies and higher prices.

and it looks suspiciously like a mini.
Not it does not.
Looks quite interesting in concept form but it's still one of these
The panel Judging panel outlined certainly has some good names -- I can't agree with their conclusion however the Citroen does nothing for me in the slightest.
I am surprised panel has never seen a picture of:
Ferrari Daytona 365GTB/4
Ford GT40...........

Perhaps too much Pastis from Ricard-Pernod played a trick on their judgment.
Number 8 should be Number 1

Don't argue, yes it does.

You are clearly joking.

You remind me of a rat looking for something to chew on.
In no particular order. Cars that are all better looking than any of those on that list.
