During the 1972 French Grand Prix at Clermont-Ferrand, a stone thrown from Ronnie Peterson's March, due to "cutting the corners" at the Charade Circuit which had no curbs at the time, hit Dr. Helmut Marko (now of Red Bull fame) in the eye as his visor got pierced. The injury damaged his eye, leaving him partially blind, ending his racing career.

Clermont-Ferrand is the home base of Michelin and also the home town of Patrick Depailler, man who won the 1978 Monaco Grand Prix.
Looks better than Magny Cours
We have an intern at the office from C-F. He says:

"The track is still there but f1 are to freaking fast for it now .. its a matter of security. But it still hosts races like F3 or GT and also you can go test drive your car there."

He also says Auvergnats (people from Auvergne) are too cheap to ever pay for upgrades to the track. Besides, it would be just as much in the middle of nowhere as Magny-Cours.

Bring on the Disney track!
