I'm not normally one to get into video games, although I have been known to get addicted by them. GT4 was a good game, but not really interesting.
I get the impression GT5 will be much better. The AI cars will me much more intelligent, not just keeping to the racing line. Damage will spice things up, as well as the excellent graphics.
Now all I need is a PS3
I have tried my son's PS2 Formula 1 game and am hopeless at it -- I do a little better at World Rally Championship.
One of my clients runs a number of Aged care Hostels & Nursing Homes and they have purchased Nintendo Wii for the more agile residents for therapy - the old dears particularly like the 10 pin bowling.
I borrowed it last weekend (to see if it would be a possible Xmas present for the kids) and found it great - the interactive bit is quite phenomenal for what it does -- the boxing game fox example is fantastic for a $400 machine - you can doge / block punches, move left right and backand throw all sorts of combinations - you really get worn out if you have a couple of matches particularly as you get up the more difficult levels the opponents gt more skilled. Tennis is also a great game as you can do all sorts of shots and have to move around to each the balls
I generally buy playstations based on when the latest GTx comes out. As soon as it's out and the holiday season prices fade, I'll switch up and get a blu-ray player out of the deal as well. In Paris CDG airport, they have PS3s with a version of the F1 game coming out. Oh.....my.....God. It was unbelievable. Too bad like usual the game doesn't come to the States and I'll have to hack yet another playstation just to play a real racing game.
Wait, isn't there already an F1 game for PS3 or are you talking about a different one, because there is already the game called F1 World Championship. But yeah tricky, I know the feeling. I want both of these games, the F1 and GT5, but I am not willing to go spend all that money on a PS3.... oh well, I'll just stick to Rfactor.
I like the GTA games, as well as GT series. The more I hear about the both of them convinces me more and more to buy the PS3. The problem is that I rarely play on the PS2, I leave that to the kids. My wife wont allow mass expeditiure unless its on her, and because I rarely play games she wont let me have it for myself. So then I say I think it would be a good Xmas present for the kids, she wont like the idea, but could agree to it. Then I say the price is £349.99 ($700) and she will be like f*** off.

It seems like td has at last discovered the secret about women. You can buy anything you like provided your first convince your better half that it's for her.
Oh, and something else - IE censors td's expletive in his post, so it appears as f**k but when drafting a reply it appears in all its limited glory.
It's a bit embarassing but my father gave me a PS3 (among other things)for my 50th anniversary!
I can't wait for GTA and GT5 to come out.
Your father is very generous, is he a veteran video gamer?
If I get a PS3 I look forward to playing against you guys on the 16-multiplayer
TD,
Does your wife want a blu-ray disc player to watch all those hi-def dvds of her favorite hunk actors?

My wife sent me out with my 12 year old daughter on the weekend to get her a dress ----- 4 1/2 hours later I escaped the shopping centre with 1 daughter 2 dresses, a pair of shorts she liked and a pair of shoes - not to mention a cd of some "Lief Garrett clone" called Jessie McCarthy (which I had to suffer in the car on the way home) - talk about muzak for the 12 year old female.
I got all sort of grief from my wife when I eventually got home for getting stuff I wasn't "sent out to get" and about being wrapped around a certain 12 year olds finger etc etc etc.
I certainly got quite a few "looks" from some of the mothers taking their daughters into the change rooms as I was waiting in the corridor out side for the numerous changes I had to view.
I can’t say I’ve had the same experience Koala. I as a true man have delegated all female responsibility to my wife. My niece, like your daughter is 12, she is living with us for the next few months as her father is fighting in Iraq. I did try to be the ‘father’ figure for a while, I took her to the shopping centre after her swimming lesions a few times – but I never really felt like she was enjoying it much. In my opinion there is nothing like two women shopping together, whatever the age difference. All the shopping comes out of my pocket, but it’s nice to see her enjoying herself considering all her friends live miles away. She likes James Blunt – I don’t. I normally listen to F1weekly on the ipod when she demands it played in the car.
My wife has some health issues at the moment which means I have the "daughter duties" - some "great" ones recently have been - taking her to the school for the "girls becoming ladies" evening - at least there was one other father there - and the first set of "ladies underwear" purchase which I am not really sure is required just yet but it was deemed a non negotiable purchase expedition by the older "she who will be obeyed".
We have tried both grandmothers but their concept of what 12 years old girls should be wearing was apparently even less acceptable to my daughter than mine. Let me tell you there are various US based poppets that have a lot to answer for in the fashion leadership stakes.
In my experience those other mothers will be impressed by your attendance. Nothing goes down better with mums then a caring dad.
I really hope your wife gets better soon.
